Where do I start??

Well I was born in Evesham. I am the second eldest in a family of 6, I have two sisters and one brother. My dad is Vietnamese and my mom is a vietnamese born chinese. My parents moved from Evesham to Worcester when I was about 3 and we have lived here ever since.

I attended Warndon Primary School and Elgar High School then I applied for a Business Studies course at College and got accepted. My parents told me that going to college was a waste of time and that I’d be better off just working in a restaurant or takeaway, so I never went to college. If I could turn back time I would have rebelled against them and went to college anyway.

I started helping out at my parent’s friends restaurant during high school and when I finished then I took on a job at Faithfulls as a sewing machinist with my sister. I only stayed for 8 months or so then my parents opened a takeaway and I’ve been helping them out ever since.

I guess I had a happy-ish life, my parents taught me the value of money so I was never spoilt. Another thing I would change about my life is not being able to speak Vietnamese, I wish my parents had smacked us and taught us how to speak another language instead of how it is now, where their children all speak english to them and they reply in vietnamese its abit messed up I know.

Lets talk about my love life now, not the past but the present. I met Dave quite a few years back from his best mate Martin. The first time we met was at a chinese party in Leicester and I did think he was pretty hot. A few years passed and I met them both again at another chinese party, this time in birmingham and for a couple of years I kept seeing them at the various parties in birmingham and so we gradually got chatting more, we even talked online. I won’t get into the details but we started seeing each other on and off for a year in 2005. We only officially got together in February 2006 on Valentines Day.

Our first holiday was in Alicante where Dave took me there for 4 days, I couldn’t stay longer because of work commitments. Then in December 2006 he popped the question. He bought the ring in Hong Kong when he went on holiday there the month before. Its 0.75ct diamond solitare on platinum but the special thing about the diamond is its a hearts and diamond one. I was ecstatic, I mean we did talk about getting engaged all the time but I was really surprised when he asked me.

In March 2007 we went to New York for a week which was amazing, I always wanted to go but it was absolutely freezing over there. Not sure if I’d go back again, maybe just for the huge pastrami sandwich at Katz Deli.

Now we are trying to organise our upcoming wedding. I have no idea where to start. I think I will start looking at dresses first seeing as thats the most important thing.

Thats the story so far………………….

Very funny, when I first visited this website I thought you were from Worcester in New Hampshire.
So, I was kind of confused when I noticed that you are British.
Your wedding planning really is fun to read and I wish you all the best for the following months.

P.S.: I loved the pictures of your sister’s wedding. She was the most beautiful bride ever.
I will stop by again to see if you can keep up with her ;-)

Leanne and her fella Neil have lived in Worcester for about 10 years and have just moved into their 2nd house in kempsey and they have decided to get married in the autumn……or maybe spring 2009. Because I know she wont mind her dad helping out with the research I shall keep dropping by to get a few tips (we live in devon)
    Best of luck.

Hello, i came across your site whilst I was searching for chinese wedding dresses. You have gone to a lot of truoble setting this site all up. Where do you find the time….. Me & my partner Johny have decided at Christmas to get married in 2009. I can’t wait. But I know there is a lot of planning to do… I don’t even know where to start…. We have got our rings & I am looking at dresses. I was thinking I would need the white dress in the day & then followed by the traditional chinese outfit. But then talking to my cousin tonight & she said I will need a 3rd outfit to get changed into after the banquet & for when I am greeting the guests as they leave!!! I totally forgot about that… I’ve never had to plan anything like this or help before. So this is all new to me. There is so much to do…..
I wish you all the best with your wedding day!!!

    Hi Sally,
I accidentally found your website searching for Chinese wedding invitations. I’ve done a lot of researching online for these printing companies in Hong Kong, but still was not sure about the reputation and hesitant in ordering online with them. With your comments page, recommendations and detailed info on Kamdo, I can now feel more comfortable in placing my order with them. I’ve read a few of the subjects and I really find your site entertaining and helpful. Hopefully your wedding goes well and best of luck with everything!

Great site! You are an inspiration to many people.
Getting married on the 4th of october!

  13. sally on February 25th, 2008 12:40 pm

Hi Adina, thanks for leaving a comment on my website. My chinese star sign is Dog and Dave’s is Dragon. Apparently we’re meant to be sworn enemies but to be honest me and Dave have never had any major arguements.

Hope your wedding planning is going well.

  14. Adina on February 26th, 2008 10:57 am

    Hi Sally,
From the pictures I see on your website, I think you and Dave are a great match. You really seem connected…
For example, I am a Monkey and my fiancee is a Dragon. We are one of the strongest matches according to the chinese zodiac, but that doesn’t mean that we didn’t fight so far. We

    Hi Sally,

First of all congratulations on your engagement! I stumbled across your website while searching for ideas for Chinese weddings. I think you really helped a lot of future brides with their own weddings. I just got engaged over Valentine’s Day to my boyfriend of 10 years. I really love your website and I am considering making one of my own to track the whole wedding planning process that I’ll be going through. I don’t have any experience with creating websites so I would really appreciate it if you can give me some pointers on how you started this whole thing.

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with us and best of luck to you and Dave :)

    HI Sally,

I just stumble on your webpage when i was searching something asian weddings. Wow, it is just 14 days away from your wedding. Congratulations! I wish both Dave and you the most wonderful wedding and beautiful marriage/family life together.

To cut the story short, my gf (in another country) decided to break up with me today after over 1 year. There were communications breakdown and misunderstandings. I am devastated and I am looking for ways to pen down all my feelings - both and good and not-so-good. I like the way you set up your website - simple and easy. Can you tell me how to similar website like yours where I can write out everything that is in me? How much does it cost?

Sorry to bother you at this busy hour of your upcoming big day. Would really appreciate if you can reply me via my email so I can start working on the site. Perhaps one day she might see my site and realize how much i still love her and never give up on her at all.

    Thanks for your valuable time.

    Hi Sally

I came across your website when I was searching for all things to do with Chinese weddings, and just wanted to say that your website has been really inspirational. Congratulations! It looks like you are going to have a beautiful wedding! I am trying not to panic after seeing how well organised you are, as I am getting married in June this year, and still so much to do. I am BBC, but my fiance is Swedish, and we’re having a ceremony and dinner in Sweden, then a Chinese wedding banquet in Manchester, so it’s double the work, but I’m trying to look at it as double the fun!

Hope you enjoy your special day and honeymoon, I will come back to see if you have posted pictures!

    Hi Sally,
I’ve read your site some months back, and back again to see if you can give me some advice on planning ummz two weddings…

Your wedding looks fabulous! You look so gorgeous on your special day, and the vows part is sooooo touching. I can understand why you couldn’t hold in the tears hehe.

Also, wonder if you know the major differences between a Vietnamese wedding and a Chinese wedding?

Please contact me through email if that’s not too much trouble for you.

    Thanks so much!

  33. Julie on March 6th, 2009 2:48 am

    Hi Sally,
How are you? Hope all is well.

I am across your website while searching for ideas for my up-coming wedding in November 2009. Your website is truly an inspiration and provided many wonderful moments of smiles as well as different option to do. Thank you for all that you do to help future brides like me with wedding planning.

Oh! I’m going to Hong Kong at the end of May for 2 weeks to take wedding pictures at MonaLisa Bridal Studio and is going with your recommendation at staying at the Metropark Kowloon Hotel. I check the prices in May and they are not that bad. Also, Kam-Do Invitation looks really cool. Do you know if they are able to get it done in 2 weeks? I would like to take it with me home to Hawaii instead of them mailing it as it might be a little too expensive.

I also have a few more questions..(hope you don’t mind)
    1. Where did you buy your Chinese (Chi Pao) dress? It very nice. I wanted to get one in Hong Kong and was wondering if you could recommend some places.
    2. Do you know any good eyeglass shop in Hong Kong? I heard they are much cheaper then in the United States and the turn around time is also quick.
    3. What did you use as your favors and center pieces? Any good recommendation on sites or places in Hong Kong to get it at?

    -Julie

    Hi Sally

    Really love your website.

I am getting married in 2 weeks time…and I am still looking for a chinese teaset for the tea ceremony. Did you buy yours in the UK? If so, please can you let me know where you got it from.

    Many thanks

    Hi,
I had to comment you on your wedding. Its very beautiful and you both have so much love for each other. I admire you both so much. May God bless you both throughout your journy together in life. Anyway, my husband and I will soon renew our wedding vow in Vegas and would like to know if there is any traditional chinese wedding outfit. we are looking for a very traditional chinese or Thai outfit for our wedding.

  36. sally on March 25th, 2009 12:58 pm

    Hi Nikki,

Thank you for your good wishes, I hope the same for you and your husband. How long have you been married? I think renewing your wedding vows in Vegas is a wonderful idea. Are you both from the States? I know that there must be Chinese clothes shops in China Town but your best bet to find an outfit will be online. Just make sure you measure yourself and send it to them so that they get the outfit right.

Wishing you both the best for your wedding renewal.

    Hi S,

Thank you for commenting on my website. I am really sorry for the late reply. I think your wedding might be over now so I don’t know if this is any use for you but I bought the red teaset from John Lewis.
