What is a Chinese Almanac??
The Chinese Almanac (Tong Shu) is the Chinese system of measuring and recording the passage of time by using the lunar and solar calendars. The Chinese have been using the Chinese Almanac for thousands of centuries. The Chinese Almanac has been used to select dates for important occasions, such as having a Chinese wedding, moving house or opening a new business. The good dates for such occasions are called auspicious dates.
Auspicious dates are based on your Chinese Animal sign and your age so its wise not to pick a date which conflicts with your Chinese animal sign.
The calculations that are required to create the Chinese Almanac are highly complex so you may have to enlist a Feng Shui expert to help translate it.
My sister who is getting married this year, has had her wedding day selected by using the Chinese Almanac 2007. Tradition calls for the groom’s parents to pick an auspicious date so they consulted a Feug Shui expert to help them.
The Yearly Chinese Almanac comes out towards the end of each year so me and my fiancee will have to wait till september or october to pick our auspicious wedding date.

in cantonese the almanac is called “toong sing”. a few web searches will show it as the farmers calendar. so maybe the farmers of the day used it to predict lucky days to harvest and grow crops?
