I’m getting married in 2008! Help!

Our Chinese Wedding Traditions

Posted on March 21, 2008 in the Chinese Wedding Traditions category

As our wedding will be mainly a chinese based wedding and not a vietnamese one. We have been told by Dave’s mom which chinese wedding traditions we will have to carry out.

Here is the list

  • The chinese weddding dowery which is a tradition we cannot miss out, poor Dave.
  • A day before the wedding Dave’s mom’s friend will make our bed, which is meant to bring us luck as she leads a very good life.
  • When Dave gives my parents the dowery, they will have to give him a lai see which is money for him to buy himself a new pair of trousers.
  • Dave has to buy my little brother some new shoes to wear for the wedding
  • I have to find a red tea pot/cups for the tea ceremony, which will be used for my family and then taken to the restaurant for the tea ceremony on Dave’s side
  • When I leave my house I will have to walk under a red umbrella
  • I think thats all the traditions that we are carrying out at our wedding. And also the chinese wedding door games which will be super fun for Dave and his guys.

I’m so happy that the time is nearly here……..I have my Hen night to look forward to on Tuesday so look out for the pictures in the next few days

Yay - you’re almost there! Do you know who has to carry the red umbrella for you? Is it just to the car from your house or do they have to follow you to your husband’s house? I’m scared there’s going to suddenly be all these traditions that my future mother-in-law will make us carry out…the less is better!

      Sally,

I will have chinese wedding, too. Per my future mother in-law, when I leave my house I will have to walk under a red umbrella and can’t look to the East side. Don’t know why. Does your parents has to buy Dave a wallet, belt and trouser? My future mother in-law told me that my parents has to buy my fiance a wallet, belt and trouser. My parents has to put a lai sei inside a wallet.

Hi Sally, I wrote a comment on your ‘About Me’ page on March 24, 2008 8.36am. See below.

I just stumble on your webpage when i was searching something asian weddings. Wow, it is just 14 days away from your wedding. Congratulations! I wish both Dave and you the most wonderful wedding and beautiful marriage/family life together.

To cut the story short, my gf (in another country) decided to break up with me today after over 1 year. There were communications breakdown and misunderstandings. I am devastated and I am looking for ways to pen down all my feelings - both and good and not-so-good. I like the way you set up your website - simple and easy. Can you tell me how to get a similar website like yours where I can write out everything that is in me? How much does it cost?

Sorry to bother you at this busy hour of your upcoming big day. Would really appreciate if you can reply me via my email so I can start working on the site. Perhaps one day she might see my site and realize how much i still love her and never give up on her at all.

Thanks for your valuable time and congratulations again!
