Selecting an Auspicious wedding date
Posted on September 21, 2007 in the Chinese Wedding Traditions category
When selecting your auspicious wedding it is said to be bad luck if you or your partner chooses your own auspicious date for your wedding as you are not meant to perform a self analysis using the almanac. That is why it is better to consult a chinese fortune teller or feng shui master but nowadays it is acceptable for the grooms Dad or any wise parent/uncle/aunt to perform that task.
We have decided to let Dave’s dad have the honor of choosing our wedding date as we are not that superstitious and we don’t have easy access to a chinese fortune teller or feng shui master. Whilst me and Dave have looked through the almanac, Dave’s dad will be selecting our dates and have the final say on which date we will be getting married on.
I have researched online that it is better to choose a date with as much even numbers as possible as its meant to be merrier. I don’t think having as many even numbers as possible will be that important to us, one of the main deciding factors is the weather and also we had originally wanted to get married in March so that we could still go to Dave’s cousins wedding in Hong Kong in April.
I think in some ways I’m quite lucky as my family and dave’s family aren’t that traditional about picking an auspicious date so it means less pressure on us. There are some couples out there who think choosing an auspicious date is a life and death issue but marriage is not based on just one day. Getting married on an auspicious date doesn’t determine the future of your marriage and it is the same as getting married on a neutral or inauspicious date. In my view getting married on an auspicious date means that nothing can go wrong on that date but I could be completely wrong.
