Changing my surname after I’m married
Posted on July 1, 2007 in the General Wedding Plans category
I was just searching online about how I change my last name after I get married and then I came to a website that was very helpful, it also had advice on “Changing your name to a double-barrelled surname” which made me laugh out loud when I realised how ridiculous my name would be is if had a double barrelled surname. Sally Ta-So…………….hahahahaha. Its traditional for the woman’s surname to go first, followed by the man’s but if it doesn’t sound right, you can always scrap that tradition. Sally So-Ta?? LOL its still sounds funny. Sally So sounds much better, even better than my Fiancee’s name, Dave So.
Anyway when you get married you recieve a Marriage Certificate which entitles you to change your surname to the one that appears on the Marriage Certificate. If you want to change your surname, you have to send that certificate along with a covering letter to the organizations who have an interest in my identity, i.e passport agency, driving license agency, banks etc
I would like to change my real name though as Sally is just an english name that people call me as they can’t pronounce my Vietnamese name. Le Nga ( pronounced liet naa). Maybe I could change my name by Deed Poll which would be even better if I was officially Sally So and not Le Nga So. You can even apply for a deed poll online or on the phone, I’m very very tempted although I would be sad to lose my vietnamese heritage. What a dilemma!
