My Chinese Wedding 2008

I’m getting married in 2008! Help!

Update - On the Wedding plans

Posted on October 26, 2007 in the General Wedding Plans category

My fiance has returned from his 3 week holiday to Thailand and Hong Kong, I was planning on giving him a piece of my mind when he returned. How dare he leave me with all the wedding plans whilst he was off having the time of his life with his mates. But he bought me a camera - the new Canon IXUS 960 IS - so I let him off the hook, not saying that I can be bought mind you hehehe.

Anyway since my last post, I have arranged a viewing to see Newstead Abbey in Nottingham. The lady did warn me that there would be a wedding that day and its a halloween themed one, which is very different. I will be posting up pics for you all to see very soon.

As we are getting married in Nottingham my parents have now opted out of having a separate banquet in Birmingham, which doesn’t mean our wedding party will be much bigger as my parents have said that many of their friends are reluctant to travel that far. It doesn’t really bother me as long as my family and friends can make it, thats all that matters. We have yet to visit the chinese restaurants in nottingham yet, as there are only 3 who do chinese wedding banquet, our choices are very limited. Hopefully this week, we can visit 1 or 2 and decide from there.

I have been buying a few wedding items on Ebay lately, like my veil, tiara and hair pins. They are so cheap and the quality is good, well the items I’ve purchased are, I couldn’t vouch for the rest. My veil was £22.56 from USA, that is so cheap compared to the prices at Bridal Stores between £60-£120 so I’m glad that I saved my fiance a few pounds.

A question for the fellow brides to be out there………….who is paying for all your wedding apparel e.g dress, accessories etc as my fiance is paying for everything and I think its tradition that he pays for everything. If he was reluctant to do so I would pay but he is very traditional himself plus if you think about it, his money will be my money so really, I’m actually paying it myself aren’t I??? To be honest, I don’t think any bride should get married in a dress she paid for herself but thats just my opinion.

“To be honest, I don’t think any bride should get married in a dress she paid for herself but thats just my opinion.” Why? I don’t understand this opinion. I bought my own dress with my own money though at the end of the whole weddding, any expenditure on the wedding will be halved between the two of us, so he will effectively be paying for half of my dress.

Amy, I guess I’m quite a traditional girl. I would like my fiance to pay for most of the wedding costs , which he is doing. I do understand your situations aswell, as when I am married, we are merged as one so any debt that my fiance has will be carried onto me too, so really I will be paying in some way half of the wedding costs if you understand what I mean by that.

Ah, that’s the difference there then. I am NOT a traditional girl in any sense. LOL! Says the poor penniless BBC actress marrying the poor penniless “gwai lo” actor. Hehehe.

    Hi Sally!
Really good site, i only just got a chance to go on it.
As for who pays?? well ray paid for my wedding dress, one of my evening dresses and my bridesmaids dresses and i paid for 2 of my dresses but thats coz i bought them in hk and he wasnt there. But he paid for the car and other bits and bobs. As for the banquet, rays parents paid for the notts one and my parents paid for the bham one. I dont really think it matters who pays…im poor so thats why ray had to pay hehehe =)

    Hey Vanessa,

No it doesn’t matter cos at the end of the day Dave’s debt will become my debt and vice versa. LOL.

So far Dave has paid for the bulk of it…..
