Wedding Plans at a standstill
Posted on September 8, 2007 in the General Wedding Plans category
I know I haven’t been updating as regularly now, thats because nothing has been happening with our wedding plans. We have only just decided that we are having the Banquet and Civil Ceremony in Nottingham. There is a slight hiccup as my parents are not that keen on having the wedding so far away. They are contemplating having another banquet in Birmingham as they know their friends will not travel that far and Birmingham is alot closer. The thought of this has been giving me and Dave a headache……….stress. I kinda agree with my parents on this, If we have it in Nottingham I don’t think half of their friends will turn up, then again they might prove me wrong. I know that our wedding will be a small one, I doubt we’re even going to have 20 tables.
We only have just over 6 months to plan our wedding and I am not freaking out just yet as my cousin managed to plan her wedding in under 4 months and my sister is doing well with her wedding plans. I think she only started planning 2 months ago even though she is getting married on October 2nd. I know I get things done when there’s a deadline, just watch me work LOL

Don’t worry, you have plenty of time. When we decided on a date, we had almost a whole year to plan but didn’t actually start doing any planning until it was about 4 months to go. 5 weeks to go now and it’s pretty much all done!
I bet you’re really relieved about that Kim. Now you can sit back and relax. How did you pick your date?? I don’t even know if we are going down the “Auspicious date” route as we can’t even get a hold of the Chinese Almanaac (tong shu) in UK. When we have got our date picked out that will be a huge relief and then I can start booking things.
well we do need that all important date before we can plan anything. i’ve been a little too busy myself to help out, but when the ball gets rolling, i’ll be there rolling it!
Hi
My wedding is in Sept 2008 and I have already started planning as I am a bit of an organising freak.
But again the problem is that not much planning can be done until you have a date. My fiances’ parents are totally cool with whatever date we choose except they are going to China to watch the omlypics so August was out of the quetsion. My parents don’t want to go to the extreme of checking a Tong Sing but do want a glance at the chinese calander to check the day we have picked is not really bad for weddings (i.e. only suitable for funerals)! But the chinese calender for 2008 is not availaible until Dec 07!! So we have actually braved it anyway and booked provisionally the civil ceremony venue and the registrar as they will get booked up fairly quickly. I have also ordered my dress but that is the only thing not dependent on the date!
Congratulations Chun,
I can totally understand your problem of planning whilst not having the date set. Where are you from?? It seems like you have planned more things than me even though my wedding is in March.
I better get a move on then.
Wishing you all the best in your planning
I have tried to plan as much as I can as my fiance is a total slack and turning up to the wedding will be his biggest contribution to the wedding!!
I am based in East London.
So far:
- ordered dress (as this takes about 6 months to make and you need two dress fittings as well)
- provisionally booked Charlton House in Greenwich for the civil ceremony
- booked registrar to attend above
- booked make up artist
- booked hair (well my aunt is doing it for free)
- checked at the moment the chinese resturarnt we want the banquet at (Yi Ban in Docklands) is still free, think we will only book that once my parents are sure we can have it on the day
- attended the National Wedding Show earlier in month for inspiration
- booked florist (well it is my brother’s girlfriend)
- chosen colour for bridesmaid (champagne gold)
- ordered favours (well the boxes anyway)
- ordered qi poa for evening banquet
need to look at car hire, photograpgher, honeymoons (Thailand), gift list, accessories, hen weekend, etc
Still so much to do!!
Is very small world - your friends wedding (Sang and Wai-ling) was featured on one of the photograogher I was looking at’s website!
Who is doing your photograpghy??
They say wedding dress and venues are the two biggest headaches of a wedding so you seem to have that part sorted!!
OMG Chun, you have done alot of wedding planning. Your fiancee seems to remind me of my fiancee well at the moment he is on holiday and won’t be back for another 11 days and I can’t make any major decisions about our wedding.
We haven’t got a date so nothing can be booked until then. We have provisionally said March 11th but its not officially as if we can’t get a venue or the registrar booked for the same day we will have to change it.
have you chosen the colour theme for your bouquet yet?
we haven’t picked a photographer yet as my sister got married last week and I’m going to wait to see how her pics turn out. If they are good we will probably book them too.
yea what a small world, my friends wai - ling and sang spent alot on their wedding pictures but i think they turned out great.
It seems like your wedding must be quite a big one.
Thailand sounds good for a honeymoon. we’re looking at the maldives for ours. We were thinking about thailand but seeing as my fiancee has gone to hong kong and thailand, i thought it wouldn’t be as special as hes already been there.
sooooooo much to do but I don’t think u should stress you have done alot. if anyone should be stressing it should be me
