My Chinese Wedding 2008

I’m getting married in 2008! Help!

2 Days to go………………..

Posted on April 6, 2008 in the General Wedding Plans category

Its only 2 days until I become Mrs So. Time has gone by so fast. I think I have pretty much everything sorted out for the wedding, apart from packing my things for the wedding night which I can’t do until tomorrow.

I’ve had a few sleepless nights worrying about the little details and I think my skin has suffered abit so I’ll try and get a good nights rest tonight because I know on Monday, I won’t be getting that much sleep. Everyone keep asking me if I’m nervous and excited, I am excited but not nervous yet. I think the only thing to worry about it the weather, if you’re not from UK then you wouldn’t know about the snow storms. Yes I know! Snow in April!!!! Hard to imagine, maybe its because I’ve always wanted a winter wedding but I can’t control the weather can I? so we’ll just have to put up with it.

I haven’t even had a chance to memorise my own vows which is why I’ve printed it out so I can read it out without worrying about messing up. I have always had an issue with speaking in front of a large group, I hope they can all hear me cos I won’t be shouting LOL

I think Dave is starting to get a little worried aswell. I think he will definitely agree with me when I say “I can’t wait til its all over”. I mean Weddings are meant to be enjoyable but maybe its only enjoyable for the guests and not the bride and groom. Well I’m only going to do this once so I’m going to try and enjoy it.

Btw Has anyone watched the film 27 Dresses?? Well one of the actresses says that her favourite part of the wedding is the look on the groom’s face when the bride walks down the aisle, so I’m hoping that Dave will have that ‘look of love’ on his face when I walk down the aisle.

Keep checking back for the official wedding pics.

Wish me luck
xoxo

My Hen Night/Bachlorette Party

Posted on April 2, 2008 in the General Wedding Plans category

Last week I had a very nice and relaxing Hen night with the girls. I didn’t want anything to tiring because I’m totally knackered from planning this wedding so all I wanted to do was have a nice chilled out day.

Fion and Pauline did a great job organizing everything. I know how stressful it can be to plan a whole night out for 14 girls. The Saks spa we went to was really blissful, I had a Detoxing Body Wrap and a back massage courtesy of Fion & Pauline. This was my visit to a spa and I would definitely treat myself to a pampering session again.

Dinner was held at World Service Nottingham. We had a private room which meant we could take as many pictures as we wanted. The food was lush but very rich so I could not finish my main or dessert.

Then we all went down to Tantra for a few drinks and to enjoy the live band. Which was a really different night out. Thanks to all the girls who came up to Nottingham I really appreciate it and Thank you again to Fion and Pauline for doing such a great job.

Our Chinese Wedding Traditions

Posted on March 21, 2008 in the Chinese Wedding Traditions category

As our wedding will be mainly a chinese based wedding and not a vietnamese one. We have been told by Dave’s mom which chinese wedding traditions we will have to carry out.

Here is the list

  • The chinese weddding dowery which is a tradition we cannot miss out, poor Dave.
  • A day before the wedding Dave’s mom’s friend will make our bed, which is meant to bring us luck as she leads a very good life.
  • When Dave gives my parents the dowery, they will have to give him a lai see which is money for him to buy himself a new pair of trousers.
  • Dave has to buy my little brother some new shoes to wear for the wedding
  • I have to find a red tea pot/cups for the tea ceremony, which will be used for my family and then taken to the restaurant for the tea ceremony on Dave’s side
  • When I leave my house I will have to walk under a red umbrella
  • I think thats all the traditions that we are carrying out at our wedding. And also the chinese wedding door games which will be super fun for Dave and his guys.

I’m so happy that the time is nearly here……..I have my Hen night to look forward to on Tuesday so look out for the pictures in the next few days

    Only 24 Days to go!!!

Posted on March 14, 2008 in the General Wedding Plans category

Hey Guys, I haven’t been updating as regularly now as life has been very hectic. Nearly all of the wedding plans have been done now apart from -

Ordering the cake - We’ve got a quote for a chinese style wedding cake from a lady in Nottingham
Booking the hotel for the night of the wedding
Finishing off our wedding vows and handing them to the registrar
Sorting out how many tables we’re having for the banquet - If only people could RSVP as soon as they’ve received the invite
Buying the drinks to put on the tables at the restaurant

All of these things are Dave’s responsiblity when he comes back from his stag do. He’s gone to Latvia with at least 20 of his mates, lucky guy.

I cannot believe time has gone so fast, maybe when you’ve been consently thinking about wedding plans you don’t realize how much time flies by. Apart from the wedding I am also slowly moving my things to Dave’s apartment as I will be living in Nottingham once we are married. My parents are quite traditional as they won’t let me live with Dave until we are actually married which is abit of a contradiction seeing as my older sis moved in with her husband months before the wedding. I guess they just want me to work for them as long as possible before I leave the business for good.

Looking back on the past few months I’ve realised that planning your wedding can be very stressful when you’re doing it pretty much by yourself. I mean Dave has helped when I’ve told him to but he was never really proactive about it. At least its nearly over and I can take a well earned holiday in the Maldives. When I come back I can look forward to a job free life and a new house!!! Woo hoo!!!

Wedding Hair Trial @ Diva Worcester

Here are the pics from the hair trial on thursday

It only took her about 30 mins to do

    img_0661.jpg

I went for a very simple style for 2 reasons. 1 - I didn’t want a complicated look and 2 - She will be less likely to mess up a simple style on the day

Dave has seen the pics and he reckons it looks nice. My mom thinks I look older with my hair up. My lil sis who was with me that day says that its ok maybe too simple. I do like the style but I think I will ask Jo (the hairdresser) to do more medium sized barrel curls instead of the bigger ones.

    We’ve got the Wedding Rings!!!

Posted on March 3, 2008 in the General Wedding Plans category

This Sunday me and ‘The Dave’ picked up our rings which we ordered the week before. I can’t believe it only took the 5 working days to make. The lady who served us said it was ready so quick because the shop is located in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter so everything is literally on their doorstep.

We have actually changed our design after looking at more rings. I have now choosen a centered channel set diamond ring (like in the pic) in platinum and Dave has got a similar ring like in the pic but the grooves are cut closer together, the center strip is matt/frosted and the outer strips are shiny platinum.

I really love my ring. We got a really good deal on the price aswell. We shopped around alot, which is what I recommend to everyone just so that you can compare prices. Dave is very pleased that we’ve managed to save so much which means we have more to spend on the honeymoon or the house. Every penny counts in the So household hehehe.

Oh, I have some other news, Dave and his Mom will be coming down to see my folks tomorrow to sort out ‘The Money’. I can’t wait to find out how much I’m going to get sold for and how good Dave is at bartering hahaha.

How many dress changes for the banquet??

Posted on February 28, 2008 in the General Wedding Plans, Chinese Wedding Traditions category

I’m in abit of a dilemma now as I have 4 dresses for my wedding but I don’t know if I should get another dress. So far I have 1 white wedding dress which will be worn at the start fo rthe ceremony and cutting of the wedding cake. I will then change into my 2nd outfit which was bought by Dave’s mom from Hong Kong, its a red embroidered chinese jacket with a netted skirt. I’m not too sure about the skirt as its really not my style and the jacket is quite ‘chinese opera’ like with the high collar but if my soon to be mother in law bought it for me I should wear it right?? Well I told Dave that I would wear the jacket but with a plain red dress underneath so that I wouldn’t have to wear the netted skirt. Anyway that will be worn for the tea ceremony and because I want to wear it for the shortest time possible I will get changed into my 3rd outfit for the banquet which is a very tight fitting pink dress. I will stay in this outfit for the food but when the time comes to go round to the tables I will get changed into a red cheongsam.

This is where the dilemma starts, should I wear the cheongsam for the rest of the night as in for the pictures and to see the guests off. Or should I buy another evening dress to wear to go round to the tables and for the pictures, then I could wear the cheongsam to say goodbye to the guests. I don’t know what to do. I really like the cheongsam and I would like to have more pictures taken wearing it so is there any point in just buying an evening dress just to go round to the tables??

Any suggestions would be helpful. Dave thinks I should just stick to what I’ve already got but you’re only a bride once in your life so I want to make the most of it, plus I think people are expecting me to have alot of dress changes so I wouldn’t want to let them down now would I?? lol

Anantara Resort Maldives - The Honeymoon is booked!!!!

Posted on February 21, 2008 in the Honeymoon/Holidays category

We (as in I) have booked the honeymoon. We originally planned to stay for 7 nights only but we had a problem with the outgoing flight as it was fully booked so we’re staying 1 extra night. We chose Anantara resort based on mainly our budget. We had £3500 budgeted for the honeymoon which is quite alot for a 7 night stay but Honeymoons are once in a lifetime so why not treat ourselves.

I researched heavily using Trip Advisor as its only customers who review the resorts/hotels and you get a good idea what its really like out there. We looked at photo’s from other travelers and the resort looked amazing, as sometimes you can’t trust pictures on the resort’s website so its good to get the real images.

These are a few pictures from Trip Advisor….

After we picking the resort, it was time for me to find the cheapest deal online and with travel agents. The cheapest company was Letsgo2. We went for an Over Water Villa B&B because we wanted to chose where we would be eating for lunch and dinner. It was cheaper to fly out on the following Monday but our dates were really flexible anyway. The price for 8 nights from the 14th-23rd April has costed us £2485.97. I’ve booked it over the phone and paid for it with Dave’s card so now all I have to do is shop for some new bikini’s. Yay!!! Not only have I got a wedding to look forward to but also an amazing honeymoon.

    Happy Valentines 2008

Posted on February 15, 2008 in the Personal category

Hope you all had a lovely Valentines. Me and Dave decided to keep it low key as he’s got the wedding to pay for. I still received a nice bunch of designer flowers and also a fruit bouquet which was so cute. I bought Dave an LV wallet seeing as its probably the last present I will buy him out of my own pocket.

Tip - Always buy honeymoons/rings ASAP

Posted on February 14, 2008 in the General Wedding Plans, Tips/Reviews category

This is a pricey lesson that me and David have learnt these past few days. Remember last month we went to the jewellery quarter in Birmingham to look at rings. We had 2 quotes from 2 different shops about the custom made rings we wanted, one quoted £1400 for both and the other £1200 which was from a shop called Cirrus.

We didn’t buy from any of them that day. The week after we got a quote from Cirrus again saying that he could do it for £1150, we thought we could wait and try and get it for cheaper. Boy, was that I mistake. This week we went back to Cirrus and the guy told us platinum prices have shot up crazily. He said if we wanted the same rings, the best price he could do it for was £1350. So in 1 month the price of platinum rose by £200. We wanted to check if he was really telling the truth so we left the shop, ring-free. I have just checked online and he was telling the truth. I don’t know if it will drop but we really should have bought are rings when we first went to the shop.

I haven’t told Dave this yet but the price for our Honeymoon has gone up aswell. I found the cheapest online quote for a 7 night honeymoon at the 5 star Anantara resort in the Maldives B&B for £2208. I have just checked the price, it is now £2294.

We could have saved ourselves £286 last month if we bought straightaway. If only I persistently nagged Dave about getting a move on with the plans, anyway its a lesson learnt which means we need to book and buy the honeymoon and rings ASAP.
