Wedding invitations HK - Ms or Miss

I got the draft layout back from Kamdo.

The difference is the added Ms onto my name. I’ve never been called Ms, I always thought it meant you are a widow but I maybe very wrong about that. I think I’ll change it to Miss Sally or maybe just leave it as Sally. I’m also going to add Mr and Mrs onto Dave’s parents name but I’ll have to confirm with Dave first.

Mr Tony Shu Sun So & Mrs Joanna Sok Yin So

What do you think??

Now all we have to do is confirm that the chinese wording is correct then we’re all set to go. They are requesting payment by Monday because they are closed for 2 weeks at the beginning of February as they need to start work straightaway so that it can be ready by the 31st January.

I’m not sure how we’re sending payment yet, we haven’t discussed that bit. eek!

Wedding Invitations from HK

Posted on January 10, 2008 in the General Wedding Plans category

Me and Dave have decided to get our wedding invitations from HK as its cheaper and they are nicer than the ones from UK.

We have chosen a HK company Kamdo to make our invitations as my friend recommended them to me and their prices seemed cheap.

Theres quite a few to choose from on their website. We picked red invitations with a silver print on the front. I wanted something simple but expensive looking.

The attached 2 files. 1 with the english format and wording for the invitations and another with the chinese version.

You can send payment to them via Money transfer using Western Union or to their bank account in HK but you get charged HK$50 for this option.

Or better yet if you have a friend who lives in HK you can send the monies that way instead.

Dave got his dad to write out the chinese wording on a piece of paper and then we emailed it to them. I then typed out the english version. I had a few problems with the wording as we have an issue with putting the details of the wedding ceremony on the invitation. If we put the details of the wedding ceremony on the invitations it would mean that everyone who received an invitation would automatically be invited to our ceremony but we don’t have enough places to accommodate. So then we decided not to put the details of teh ceremony on the invitation and instead have it printed out on a seperate piece of paper for the chosen 80-90 that will be invited to the ceremony.

After some help online from some wedding websites I managed to write the invitations with a little help from David.

We will be ordering around 150 and hopefully it will be made in 2-3 weeks. Dave’s mom is in HK for a month so she will pick them up before she leaves. They said that they will email me a draft layout and then after they receive payment they will start printing it out.

The Wedding Rings - Custom made

Posted on January 10, 2008 in the General Wedding Plans category

Me and Dave went to visit Birmingham’s famour Jewellery Quarter the other day. After about 30 mins in the first shop we stepped foot in, we had already picked out our wedding rings. Now thats what I call getting things done. Its not all over yet. We both know what design we want for our wedding rings now its just a case of getting the best price. After coming out of the 1st jewellers we went into another one which we decided we would try and get a quote for exactly the same rings. The guy said that he would get back to us with a quote and hopefully he will beat the 1st jewellers.

I found a picture online of the ring that I want made, although the one picture is a 5mm and I want a 3mm.

r009p.jpg

The one in the picture is a flat court but I want a D shaped court or a court.

For those of you who don’t know what court and D shaped are…………..btw Dave had no idea but after that visit he learnt something new.

d-shape_small.png

D-shape wedding rings are flat on the inside and rounded on the outside.

court_small.png

Court shape wedding rings are rounded on the inside and rounded on the outside.

We both want our wedding rings made in Platinum but Dave asked me whats the pros and cons of having platinum instead of white gold. I will write a post about this in my tips/review category.

Dave’s wedding ring will be the “male version” to my ring. He will have a court ring in matt finish and instead of having diamonds he will have a band of polished platinum.

So both rings will look similar to this picture but with curved edges and also mine will be in polished platinum to go with my engagement ring.

My Chinese Wedding - 3 dress changes

Posted on January 5, 2008 in the The Wedding Look category

I have decided to have only 3 dress changes and a sly 4th one at the after party but that doesn’t really count. Anyway I white wedding dress and also a bright red Cheongsam. My Dave went to Hong Kong and bought one for me which has been paid for by his grandma as a gift to me. The dress is really nice although a little loose on me so Dave’s mom will be altering the dress for me when she gets back from Hong Kong next month.

I will be wearing the white dress for the Wedding ceremony and also when we get to the restaurant to take some pics with the wedding cake. Then I will change into thee red cheongsam for the tea ceremony and banquet. I have yet to buy my 3rd dress which I will wear to go round to the tables for the cheers and also for photos and to say goodbye to the guests.

I have searched online for a dress but UK shops don’t really have any nice ones so I have started looking at USA sites as they ship to UK and their prom dresses are really nice.

I like the style but not the color

2716_00009.jpg

I love the color but I think that maybe too many pleats at the bottom of the dress

I love this dress, its the most expensive one out of the ones I have chosen but it looks so elegant. Not too sure about the color as I may get washed out by everyone else. They also have this dress in Peacock color which is blue.

13712-f-purple.jpg

Nice and sparkly but maybe not “wow” enough for me

p4223purp_front.jpg

Nice fishtail dress, maybe too plain though

sr1083-f-46943.jpg

I really like this dress but my after party dress is a mint green so I wouldn’t want to have it in this color. They do also have it in Lilac and Lipstick which is a redish pink color.

4243.jpg

I love the detailing on the bust and I like the purple color.

4257.jpg

Not too sure about this dress, it might too sparkly.

I’m really stuck on choosing a dress, its harder as I can’t try them on and also I don’t even know what style I want to go for. I think I might go for a purple or blue color as my bridesmaids will be in light gold dresses so I want to be in a dress that makes me stand out more. I’m not sure about having another strapless dress as my wedding dress and the after party dress are both strapless. Hmmmmmm…………what to buy what to buy

Videography - Wedding song choice for our DVD

Posted on January 5, 2008 in the General Wedding Plans category

We have chosen a East Midlands company Light Films, to video our Wedding. I searched through quite a few companies before finding one that was reasonably cheap and would be able to travel 80 miles out to Worcester. After viewing their DVD show reel, me and Dave thought their work was very good.

Our Gold package consists of -

The service consists of:

* One Cameraman
* Cameraman will be in attendance from before ceremony to after first dance
* Montage of arrivals to music of your choice
* Professional filming of Wedding in Widescreen
* Montage of Photography session to music of your choice
* Lineup / Greeting Line
* Speeches
* First Dance
* Special Messages from friends and family as a DVD extra (optional)
* Presented on a DVD with interactive menus
* Five copies of DVD disc printed with images of wedding

We had to rush our booking as by January 1st, all their prices were going up by £200 but I managed to get the booking in time. Now we have to chose our 10 songs to be put onto the DVD for when they edit it all together. Yay! thats the fun bit seeing as I love my music.

So far we have chosen

1. Shawn Colvin - When you know (this is kinda our song)
2. Beyonce & Stevie Wonder - So Amazing
3. Minnie Rippleton - Loving you (this one was chosen by Dave)

I have a couple of other choices but I’m still deciding on them

Joe - No one else comes close
Lonestar - Amazed
Sade - By your side
Nick Lachey - I swear

Lets see what Dave has come up with, I bet he hasn’t even started on this task!!!

Happy New Year Everyone!!!

Dinner at Merchants Nottingham

Posted on December 20, 2007 in the Tips/Reviews category

I took my fiance to dinner at Merchants Nottingham on Tuesday as a early birthday treat. As we have been to Nottingham’s other top restaurants; World Service, Hart’s & Chino Latino. I thought we should give Merchants a try. I booked the table under Mrs So which is abit cheeky seeing as I’m not married to Dave yet. As Merchants is the restaurant of The Lace Market Hotel, we have to walk through reception to get to it. There were no signs to the restaurant so we had to ask the lady at reception. I think the hotel and restaurant should make some changes to this.

After the waiter took our coats, we sat down to our table. The service was great, although Dave did have trouble understanding one of the waiters because he had a very strong French accent. The Menu seemed pretty standard, nothing on the menu made my mouth water. The prices are quite expensive though. If you go for the 3 course dinner its £35 per head. On the A la carte menu, starters range from £9-£13, mains from £18-£24 and desserts from £8-£10.

We recieved canapes as we were looking at the menu. Which were really tasty. Dave went for the 3 course because I really wanted the christmas pudding souffle that was on that menu. He chose Seafood Chowder to start, then the Lamb saddle for main. I had the Seared Scallop starter and the Sea Bream for main.

Then we got our bread, which I should now make I note of when I go to restaurants to not eat bread cos it kinda fills me up. After we finished that we were give a amuse bouche which was served in a long shot glass. It was a creamy, rich kinda soup/puree of pumpkin. That was quite different.

Our starters came out and they both looked very similar both had scallops on top and tasted kinda the same. We were both amazed by that, especially as mine cost £13. Dave’s Main of Lamb Saddle looked very tasty whilst my fish looked less appealing. All I got with my fish was spinach on the bottom. It was very buttery and simple, not something that I would have expected from a runner up to Nottingham’s 2007 Restaurant Award but maybe that’s why they didn’t win. Dave’s lamb was cooked very nicely and had lots of flavour to it.

Dessert was next, the souffle looked great on the plate but tasted ok. I’ve had better souffles elsewhere and the Drambuie Ice cream didn’t taste that much like drambuie.

I think Merchants isn’t as good as World Service or Hart’s. I would rather go to World Service again becuase it feels alot posher rather than some Hotel Restaurant.

Wedding Vows

Posted on December 18, 2007 in the General Wedding Plans category

I received a letter from Basford Registrars asking me and Dave which wedding vows we would like to say for our Civil Ceremony. I didn’t know you get a choice of 3.

The first part of the the ceremony is the declaration, we have a choice from these 3;

1, I do solemnly declare that I know not of any lawful impediment why I…………., may not be joined in matrimony to……………..

2, I declare that I know of no legal reason why I……………. may not be joined in matrimony to…………

3, I am (in reply to the question “Are you……………free lawfully to marry……………

The second part is the contract.

A, I call upon these persons here present to witness that I……………do take thee…………….. to be my lawful wedded wife/husband

B, I……………..take you…………….to be my wedded wife/husband

C, I……………..take thee…………….to be my wedded wife/husband

Me and Dave have chosen 1 and A for our choice of the wedding vows as we both feel that it sounds more traditional. We will also add our own vows after these wedding vows. I have already written my own vows but I don’t think I can memorize it to say in front of all our guests so I may have to write it down on a card. I kinda think that it may look abit weird as instead of looking at my future husband whilst saying it, I will instead be looking at a piece of card. LOL.

Meetings with 2 photographers

Posted on December 13, 2007 in the General Wedding Plans category

Me and Dave met up with 2 photographers on Tuesday, both are based in Nottingham but they both have different packages for weddings.

The first company we saw was Eyephoto. They quoted £1300 for a 12 hour day. In that package you get -

  • A pre wedding shoot
  • Mounted Signature print of the pre wedding shoot, for your guests to sign
  • One photographer
  • Natural and informal photography
  • Proof album with approx. 300 -500 images
  • Proof CD slideshow
  • Web gallery online
  • 110 photographs in a leather album
  • All Travel expenses are included in the price
  • If you want all the printable images on a CD you have to pay £300. For an extra album for the parents its £250 each.

The second company was Life Photographic. The quoted £900 for a 12 hour shoot. In that package you get -

  • 2 photographers
  • Editing of images
  • Photos all on CD/DVD for us to print out ourselves
  • We also have to pay for a hotel in Worcester for them.

We both feel like the second one maybe the better choice as we get all the photos on CD and then we can take it to Hong Kong to be printed for cheaper.

The style of both photographers were pretty similar but if we’re only going to be paying someone to take pictures and not having them printed out then surely we can find a cheaper photographer. The search continues……
