Chinese Tradition of Groom bringing the flowers
Posted on July 21, 2007 in the Chinese Wedding Traditions category
I’m not sure if this is true or not but from attending friends and families weddings, the groom picks up the bridal flowers and gives them to the bride when he goes to pick her up. Now is this tradition or is this just more convenient if the groom picks up the flowers anyway. I would like to know because I’m either going to be looking at flowers in Nottingham (where dave lives) or Worcester (where I live).
I would prefer it if Dave were to give me my bouquet as I think it would romantic for him to give me flowers cos he rarely does (hehehe). I’ve seen some footage of Chinese Weddings on Youtube and all the grooms give their bride the bouquet and they also lift her veil which I think would be nice for us to follow steps aswell.
There is abit of an issue with the timing though as I’m not sure when he will be leaving Nottingham to pick me up, I think it will be very early so there is the problem of the florist being opened that early as well. Mmmmmm dilemma. Maybe I should order from Worcester instead but thats not what really want, I want Dave to bring the bouquet so Hunny, make it happen okay…..
Flooding in Bromsgrove/Worcester
Posted on July 21, 2007 in the Personal, Tips/Reviews category
OMG I have had the worse day. The rain has been going on for what seems like forever which has brought chaos to the roads. Driving to work wasn’t too bad, there was flooding on the A38 from Worcester to Bromsgrove but the little Yaris made it through the foot deep water. Deliveries at work were a disaster cos of all the flooding. People were waiting 1hr 30mins for food cos of all the traffic as people were slowing down for the floods.
My sister ended up losing the front number plate to the company car cos of the flooding, she has no idea when it slipped off or how it happened so I have to sort that out for tomorrow. Great(!)
The drive back home was when the nightmare started. After driving through some minor floods in Bromsgrove, I reached the end of the M5 and saw that the police has closed it off so I had to take the A38 back to Worcester. I was preparing myself for the worse and I was right to. There was some major floods and then there was the big one. I swear it was like 2 feet of water and ahead I could see all the cars driving all the way to the right side of the road to get through. I followed a car through, I saw him go up the kerb but I thought I’d be ok to just say on the road. As I was going through the water I could see the waves go up nearly level with my window and I could feel the engine nearly giving way so I revved somemore and managed to get through. I was shaking after that, I was so scared, I thought I was going to get stuck in the water.
I was nearly home, about 1 minute away, all the cars ahead had gone off to different routes so it was just me. I got to the main road into Worcester and ahead of me there was the biggest ditch of water, it covered the whole road, it really looked like a river. I thought no way am I going to get through this, so I had to drive out of Worcester, on the A449 and back in on the A4440. I drover over the M5 and saw that the southbound traffic was heaving, the cars were not moving at all, I don’t know how people were going to get home. Anyway finally made it back home, I was so relieved, about 5 minutes later my parents arrived back home, think they wouldn’t have had as much trouble as I did because they drive a big 4×4.
Lesson learnt, don’t attempt to go through floods of nearly 2 feet deep
Eva Longoria’s Wedding 07/07/07
Posted on July 20, 2007 in the Real Weddings category
Me and my sister have been stuck to OK magazine this week as they have the exclusive pictures of Eva’s wedding to Tony Parker. When we saw her dress, we were both in awe. It was stunning, I’m trying to find pictures to put on my website but theres none online. She wore a white silk gown with a 10 foot train and it was estimated at more than $75,000. Wow, obviously anyone with that kind of budget would have an amazing dress.
Another reason why we couldn’t put down the magazine was Eva’s choice of flowers for her bouquet. She had “white phalaenopsis orchid stems and crystal blush calla lilies”, they were absolutely beautiful. I want exactly the same, well I’m hoping to get something similar for my bouquet, I’ll just have to bring the magazine along with me when I go to the florist and hope that they don’t think I’m some sad girl who hasn’t got her own ideas for flowers LOL. My sister wanted the same flowers aswell but she worried about cost. I too worry about cost but I’ll happily sacrifice something to have a stunning dress and beautiful flowers. I’ll even stop eating until the wedding……….jks
Ebay hassle
Posted on July 19, 2007 in the Personal category
I sold my WAREHOUSE dress on Ebay last week, I bought it for £80 a few months ago and I have only worn it once to a wedding. I was hoping to get at least £40 for it, the winning bid was at £35.01, so I was ok about my dress being sold for that amount but tell me who doesn’t wish their items to sell for more. The winning bidder was a new user, she had no feedback so I was a little bit worried. She messaged me straight after the auction finished and asked me how she could pay as she was new to Ebay. I replied saying that she could either pay via PayPal or send me a cheque. A week went by and she didn’t reply to any messages and I didn’t get any form of payment so I opened a dispute on Ebay stating that she hasn’t paid. Now I have to wait another week before I can get the Final Value Fee credit and the Free Re-list credit.
What a load of hassle!!!
Does anyone want to buy my dress??
Grafton Manor
Posted on July 19, 2007 in the Wedding Venues category

I recieved another wedding brochure today, I have to say I felt abit guilty having all these brochures as I know they’re not that cheap to make. Anyway, this manor is very close to where I work so that’s why I was a little hesitate to contact them. My sister has been to this manor and also a friend of mine attended a wedding there, both said that it is a very nice manor with great scenery.
There are about 20 pages in this brochure, all detailing the menu and drinks, then right at the back there is the tariff which states that the manor is only availiable for exclusive use which ranges from £500 - £4000 depending on how many guests you have and which month you want to get married in. Theres no mention about whether or not they are licensed to hold Civil Ceremonies so thats abit rubbish.
The search continues for the wedding venue………….
Fat Cat Nottingham
Posted on July 14, 2007 in the Personal, Tips/Reviews category
I never knew that organising dinner for 25 people would be so much hassle. I rang up Fat Cat Nottingham yesterday to ask about making a dinner reservation for 25 people, they said that they can cater for 25 but we would have to pre-order first, I was abit iffy about making all my guests order 2 days in advance so I said I would ring them back.
I found 2 other restaurants that I quite liked, Sinatra’s Nottingham which is opposite Fat Cat Nottingham or The Living Room Nottingham. I looked at Sinatra’s website and saw that the interior didn’t look as nice because the whole walls were covered in framed pictures, its ok if you like that quirky look but its not for me. That means I was left with The Living Room, I have been to the one in Birmingham and found the food very nice so I thought it would be a good choice, kinda like Fat Cat Nottingham food wise but abit upmarket. I gave them a call and they said they could cater for 25 people but we would have to choose from a reduced menu. I would have to select 5 starters and 5 mains to make up the menu. I thought that idea and I was nearly sold on it but then she explained the seating arrangements. We would be sectioned off from main restuarant to give us some privacy but all tables can only seat 4 so I would have to have 6 or 7 tables, I wasn’t keen on that idea at all because my friends are coming from Leeds, Birmingham and Leicester and I want to be sat with them not on another table so I said I would think about it and call her back.
I called Dave and he said that its my choice and that seating arrangements aren’t my problem, the restaurant should deal with seating people. He said that I should call Fat Cat and see if they can do a reduced menu instead of a pre-order cos that was the only issue. So I called them again and asked, they said they could do a reduced menu but I wouldn’t be picking the dishes the chef would, which is fair enough cos I’m not going to be cooking it, he is. They also said we would be sat on a long table which has a gap in the middle so that the waiters can walk past, which is fine although I would have liked to be upstairs but they said that the section is closed on Tuesdays.
So thats my birthday sorted, one thing I have learnt is not to organise another big dinner party, especially not my own. No its not a dig at you Dave, that I have to organise my own Birthday I’m just venting at the fact that not many restaurants have the ability to cater for huge parties or did I just pick the wrong restaurants?? Maybe we could have just had Chinese at least they are reliable.
Birtsmorton Court
Posted on July 14, 2007 in the Wedding Venues category

Another Wedding brochure in the post today, Birtsmorton Court near Evesham, its a moated Manor but its about 30 mins away from where I live which I don’t think would be ideal because its south Worcester which means it would take about 1hr 10mins to get to Birmingham for our Banquet which I think is too long.
They have given me prices for exclusive hire and for a Civil Wedding it would cost £4800 which includes the hire of The Garden Room for the ceremony, the use of The White Garden Room for reception drinks, followed by a wedding breakfast in the The Garden Room and Marquee. No wonder its so expensive but if you have it on a weekday you get 50% discount. I would email them and ask about just having the Civil Wedding there but I think its not in the right location for us, a pity though.
Planning My 25th Birthday Celebrations
Posted on July 13, 2007 in the Personal category
I’m turning 25 on July 25th and I’m planning on celebrating this big occasion by having dinner with all my nearest and dearest in Nottingham. I usually have most of my birthday celebrations in Birmingham but as I’m going to be moving to Nottingham next year, I might aswell have my big birthday dinner there plus its quite a good location as I have people coming from Leeds, Leicester and Birmingham, plus I’ll already be in Nottingham that day and the Birthday Girl shouldn’t really have to travel on her birthday does she?
I have chosen Fat Cat restaurant/bar for my dinner. Hopefully I’ll be able to book the tables upstairs cos its alot cosier there. Food is always nice there and reasonably priced so I doubt people will be complaining. I’m not too sure what the plans are after dinner, probably off to a nice bar somewhere. I don’t want to get drunk so its Dave’s responsibility to make sure people don’t plaster your fiancee with drinks cos you’re going to have to carry me up 3 or is it 4 flights of stairs to your apartment.
I’m really looking forward to seeing all my friends as lately everyone has been busy doing there own thing and had no time to meet up. Its a shame that its only really birthday’s and weddings that bring us all together. So far I have about 25 confirmed guests and 3 unconfirmed. Thats quite alot of people. I hope they don’t think they all need to buy the Birthday Girl a drink otherwise I’m f****d LOL
The Civil Wedding Venue
Posted on July 12, 2007 in the Wedding Venues category
I requested some Wedding Brochures from The Stone Manor, near Kidderminster and The Elms near Worcester. The brochures arrived a few days ago and I went through both of them, to be honest, both brochures needed to have more pictures but there were quite informative of their prices.
The Stone Manor
I honestly think I’ll have to take this venue off my list as it doesn’t look that nice, judging from the pictures in the brochure. They have quoted £850 if we just want the Ceremony at the Manor which is probably reasonable. The grounds look ok but I’m not keen on the exterior.
The Elms
Now that is pretty. Its £750 to have your Civil Wedding Ceremony here which also include 2 pedestals of flowers of my color choice. I prefer this one more than The Stone Manor, it looks more grander. So this is the top choice for me so far, now I need to find more venues…..
Chinese Wedding Blog
Posted on July 9, 2007 in the Personal, Tips/Reviews category
I know I have been slightly lazy with my blog entries lately but I do keep asking myself why am I keeping a blog? Its not as if I have a huge fan base yet. So I’ve made a list to remind myself why I should keep making regular posts on my website.
1 - Friends and family can keep up to date with my wedding planning and comment/advise me on different aspects of our wedding
2 - This website will be a great stress reliever. When the stress hits me I can vent my frustrations out on my website
3 - I can put all my options on rings/flowers/cars/bridesmaids dresses etc on this website and it’ll be easier for my fiancee to help me decide
4 - I can hopefully share tips and advice with other bride-to-be’s on chinese wedding tradititions and general wedding things
Thats all I can think of, I’m sure my Dave can think of other reasons why I should keep making blog entries………..
