My Chinese Wedding 2008

I’m getting married in 2008! Help!

Wedding Flowers - 1st visit to a florist

Posted on January 21, 2008 in the The Wedding Look, Tips/Reviews category

Today I went to a florist here in Worcester called Floral Services. I wanted to ask about prices just so I had a rough idea of what to expect. The lady was very helpful, she asked me what kind of flowers I was thinking of for myself and the bridesmaids. I was 50/50 on either a posy bouquet or a shower bouquet.

I’m now leaning more towards the posy bouquet. As the lady explained how if my dress had detailing then the shower bouquet would cover some of it up, also I might want to consider having a simple looking bouquet so that my fish tail style wedding dress stands out more.

I really like the compact bouquets which are more expensive than a normal posy because you have to have alot of roses to get that look. I would like either white or ivory roses but the lady said the ivory ones are nicer.

I also want either pearls or diamante in the bouquet

For my 4 bridemaids I would like them to have a small posy of roses but the lady advised me not to have the same flowers as I was having in my bouquet as I’m meant to stand out more. She suggested that they have a small bouquet of ivory and yellow freesias.

Prices for my bouquet are from £80.00

Bridesmaids are £45.00

Rose Buttonholes are £3.50

I know from experience to never go for the first price so I will be shopping around and see which florist is the cheapest. I also have to buy some bridal magazines to get some inspiration and take the pictures/clippings from magazines with my to the florists. Can you believe I have never bought a bridal magazine, all my research has been internet based but I should buy a magazine just for the sake of it.

I really like the ivory roses posy bouquet with pearls - looks very elegant and expensive

The prices quoted sound about similar to what I have been quoted in London

I am saving money by making my own button holes…

I have brought every bridal magazine on the shelf since last Oct and constantly have my fiance shouting at the amount of money they cost! But hey when else in your life will you be buying bridal magazines so I am making the most of it :p

Hi Sally! Congratulations to you and your partner Dave!

Really a big ‘thanks’ to you and your website as it has helped me so much in planning my wedding for 2009!

Im Chinese and my partner is English so we are having an English/Chinese wedding so not sure how well that will turn out!

    Again big thanks!

    Hi Chun,

I like the ivory roses with pearls too. Is these prices are simliar to prices in London then I must be paying extra and you know London prices are always more than other areas in UK.

Making your own buttonholes seem like a good way to save money but I have no idea how to make them.

Bridal magazines are mainly filled with adverts but they also have some informative articles.

    Hi Cindy,

Wow you have already started doing wedding research for your wedding in 2009. Thats impressive.

A mix of cultures - english and chinese, wicked. What chinese traditions are you thinking of having fro your wedding. You gotta do the wedding games at the door, as its just the funniest part.

    Good Luck with the plans

Hi Sally, Thanks for your response! Yeah, definatley keep the chinese traditions! The door games will be on my list, just hope my Jei Mui’s will take it easy on my partner & mates!

Going to plan a chinese Banquet and then a buffet, really not too sure! I dont even realised there are so much to do!!!

Cindy if your gee muis are really good, they will make your partner and mates work really hard to come through the door.

Will you be having 2 seperate weddings on 2 different days then?? Thats even harder work.

The only thing that keeps me going is thinking about the honeymoon. lol

Weddings are hard work but hopefully, I can say that it is worth it in the end

Hi Sally! Sorry to keep popping on your screen like this!

Hopefully my gee mui’s will do a good show for me on that day!

I wont be having two seperate weddings. Will be having a registry in a white dress and then the chinese banquet with the Quai Po’s. Less work and less money! Cant deal with two seperate weddings, cant even manage just the one! ~_~

Sally dont worry about your female guests wearing black, red or white. Hopefully they would know not to wear these colours, unless they have not heard or been to a wedding before. Your not being outrageous because that’s what im going to tell my female guests. Hopefully they wont get insulted by it! You just want your wedding to be Perfect!

    Hi Cindy,

You’re having a chinese banquet, I assumed you would be having an english style reception as usually its his family paying unless your family is exceptionally bigger.

I think I might write a note to the female guests when we send the invitations out. Hopefully, I won’t get labelled a b**ch LOL
