Dinner @ Tarn Thai

Me and my Fiancee went on a double date last night, I’m not too sure if its still classed as a date as Vanessa and Ray are engaged and I’m sure we’re past that stage of having “dates” because we’ve been together so long anyway Dave suggested that we all go to Tarn Thai as he’s already been there 3 times and has said that the place was nice. Well we got to the place at 8pm and were quickly shown to our table, the decor was top notch, you really get a feel of being in a different part of the world. In the middle of the restaurant there was a water feature which gave the whole restaurant a very relaxed feel.

We were given our Menus which were quite big and heavy as they maybe were made of wood I think. There is alot of choice so we had a hard time choosing. In the end me and dave went for satay meat skewers and tom yum soup to start then for mains we chose the fishing basket and pud me (vegetarian noodles) to share. The orders for drinks came out quick and there was about a 15mins wait for the starters, which isn’t so bad. The satay skewers came with the peanut satay dip and also a sort of vinegar relish, I think we were supposed to have 2 pork, 2 chicken and 2 beef skewers but we only had 1 pork, 3 chicken and 2 beef. The presentation was excellent but the taste was average, I have had better elsewhere but at least it wasn’t terrible. The tom yum soup was very yummy indeed although my fiancee did complain about the small potion but I did remind him that its a starter, its not meant to full you up. I give the skewers 5/10 and the soup 8/10.

The mains came out quickish too. We were given new cutlery and warm plates too. Our fishing basket looked delicious when it came out, it comprised of a whole steamed sea bass, 4 mussels, 4 king prawns, 2 skewers of scallops, 3 skewers of squid, a small bowl of salad (basically carrots, cucumber, cherry tomatoes and cashew nuts and a tangy chilli dipping sauce all for £26. The sea bass was extremely well cooked, the dipping sauce really made the seafood tasty indeed. The noodles were quite bland so i’m glad we had the chilli sauce otherwise it wouldn’t have been as nice. We couldn’t finish the fishing basket, there was too much there for us.

Me and Vanessa went to the ladies bathroom cos Dave said we should go and check it out. The bathroom was very posh, beige tiles with big sliver sinks, the interior designer that they used got everything right, it certainly leaves you with a good impression. Even though we were all stuffed we still managed to have desserts, mango and passion fruit sorbet and mint chocolate chip ice cream, it was lush. As the night grew on, it hit 11pm and they handed us our bill even though we never asked for it but they close at 11pm so I understand the bother of having to wait for late customers to leave. The total came to £92 for four of us, we had no wine so I think that was reasonable especially as our Fishing basket alone came to £26. I would definitely come back to this restaurant, the food and atmosphere was just right. I may even consider having my 25th birthday there.
