Never take the first price/offer that someone gives you

I’ve learnt that if you want to get by in this dog eat dog world, you have to be clever and not get ripped off by the average joe. This week I potentially saved my parents from forking out an extra £60 but the truth is i only saved them about £3. This is how it happened……….I serviced our company car earlier on this week, Toyota said the front 2 tires were just on the edge of being legal and they gave me a quote for £52 per tyre (VAT + labour inc), I thought I could get a better deal at the local Kwik fit so I rang them and asked how much the tires would be and they said it would cost me £82 each. I was shocked, I thought surely a big company like Toyota would hike up prices extortionately but I never thought a smaller company would. Well I told them exactly for much Toyota quoted me and the guy had to ask his boss if he could do me a better deal, he came back to me with the price of £50 all in for each tyre. So in the end I went for it. My fiancee did tell me that I could have gotten the price down further and in hindsight I should have tried but thats a lesson learnt. Imagine the thousands or even millions of people who always take the 1st price that they’ve been given, think of all the money they could have saved if they just tried to haggle.
